Mary Zehngut's early training in drawing yields carefully depicted observations from real life, often layered with a narrative psychological or spiritual component. Her work veers off from straightforward representational presentations into dream content, symbolic juxtaposition, and surrender to surreal innuendo. Over the last couple of years she has been exploring new dimensions of abstraction.

A graduate of Tyler School of Art, Mary  frequently paints with her husband William Zehngut, an expressionist painter of landscapes, still lifes and portraits. They share a studio space in Long Island City, where one can witness the ongoing and dynamic interplay and dialogue.
